Autogas questions

Will running my vehicles on LPG save my business money?

Running a vehicle - or fleet of vehicles - on Autogas brings businesses a number of financial benefits. Autogas is approximately half the price of petrol and diesel, and road tax and vehicle insurance is lower. Users also benefit from lower fuel duty and reduced car parking in some areas.

Will using Autogas deliver any environmental benefits to my business?

Yes. Vehicles powered by Autogas emit fewer greenhouse gases than those powered by petrol and diesel, meaning there's less impact on local air quality.

Is Autogas better for my vehicle(s)?

Yes. By using Autogas, the wear and tear on your vehicles' engines is significantly reduced. That's because LPG burns more cleanly than petrol.

Can I convert my vehicle(s) to run on Autogas?

Yes. Converting to Autogas from petrol or diesel is a quick and straightforward process that can deliver significant savings to your fuel costs and business over the course of the year. Please click here to contact us to find out more about switching to BP Gas.

Is Autogas widely available?

Yes. Filling your vehicle(s) with Autogas is just as quick, clean, safe and straightforward as doing so with petrol and diesel. Autogas is available throughout the UK, with BP Gas alone distributing Autogas to more than 250 outlets. If you opt to install refuelling facilities on site, our range of options offers business customers flexibility and convenience to suit their specific business needs.

Will on-site refuelling suit my business?

Installing an on-site refuelling unit at your business premises could save you significant amounts of money over the course of the year.

The on-site refuelling unit you choose will depend on:

  • How much Autogas you need
  • The facilities you require
  • Whether you will sell Autogas to the public
What does a BP Gas on-site refuelling unit consist of?

A BP Gas on-site refuelling unit consists of:

  • 2000-litre vessels or 4000-litre vessels (or multiples of 2000-litre and 4000-litre vessels)
  • 0.75-inch, single or three-phase electric pump, generating a flow rate of 30 to 40 litres per minute; or 1.25-inch, three-phase electric pump, generating a flow rate of 50 to 60 litres per minute
  • A basic hose with fill nozzle or volume-only dispenser housed in a lockable cabinet with hose and fill nozzle; or an electronic volume and value dispenser (capable of electronic feed to vehicle management system) housed in a lockable cabinet with hose and fill nozzle

All hoses will be the maximum permitted length of 3.6m and incorporate a self-sealing pull-away coupling and bayonet-style filling nozzle with lockable holster.

The unit will be complete with flameproof junction box, "Dead man's" push button, start contactor, isolator and overload. You can connect your electrical supply into the junction box via the gland supplied by BP Gas.

Does BP Gas install my on-site refuelling unit?

Yes. The whole unit will be fully tested, purged and delivered to site charged with propane vapour. After electrical connection and initial fill, the unit will be given a final check and test by BP Gas for correct operation. We can also specify and install larger vessels both above and below ground upon request.

Do I need Autogas or BP Economix™?

Autogas is LPG for cars or vans, vehicles that usually run on petrol or diesel. BP Economix™ is BP Gas' unique LPG/diesel mix which is ideal for diesel-only haulage vehicles.

What is BP Economix™?

BP Economix™ is a combination of LPG and diesel, creating a cleaner burning and more cost-effective fuel. It safely displaces diesel and replaces it with LPG, enabling businesses to maintain vehicle performance and efficiency while enjoying fuel cost savings of up to 12%.

How does BP Economix™ work?

BP Economix™ technology allows diesel to continue entering the vehicle's engine while the LPG enters via a secondary gas system. The system calculates the expected power output by measuring the duration of the original diesel injector. It then reduces the percentage use of the more expensive diesel accordingly, with the 'shortfall' being made up by the cleaner and cheaper LPG.

The vehicle will also automatically default to diesel should the engine run out of LPG. Operating within original equipment manufacturer (OEM) limits, the vehicle's performance remains unaffected.

Why should I switch my haulage fleet to run on BP Economix™?

As well as helping reduce their carbon footprint, BP Economix™ enables businesses to be more competitive with customer tenders and quotes. Our complete packaged offer includes a comprehensive site assessment and full installation, and you'll also benefit from ongoing account management and full warranty cover.
