Bulk tank questions

What tank sizes are available?

Bulk tank LPG comes in a range of sizes, from half a tonne to two tonnes. When you join BP Gas we will ensure you have a tank size which fits your LPG needs.

When should I re-order?

At BP Gas we have a number of re-ordering options and a member of our Customer Services team will discuss with you the most suitable option when you join us. These options are Telemetry, Top-Up and By Request.

Telemetry
This is a device which is fixed to your LPG tank and monitors the gas level. When the gas reaches the re-order level the device triggers a gas delivery.

Top-Up
By analysing your usage patterns and linking this to your tank size and level, we will automatically schedule a delivery of LPG when you need it.

By Request
You are responsible for monitoring the level of gas in your tank. You can do this simply by viewing the gauge on the top of the tank and re-ordering when the gas falls to the agreed re-order level. You then contact our Customer Services team and place your order.

Both Top-Up and By Request customers can benefit from the option of managing their account online.

What should I do if I run out of gas?

If you run out of gas:

  • Turn off the emergency stop valve on the side of the building
  • Make sure all appliances are turned off
  • After delivery, the Under Pressure Shut Off valve (where fitted) should be reset
  • Follow your appliance re-lighting procedures
How do I prepare for my delivery?

Make sure the route from the road to your tank is free from obstruction and the area around your tank is clear of hazards. Please contact us if you would like to discuss individual access arrangements.

Do I need to be home for my delivery?

Bulk tank LPG deliveries can be made even when you're out, so you don't have to stay at home waiting for your delivery. Our driver will have a key to the hood on your tank and a ticket will be left to show how many litres have been delivered. The only thing you need to do is ensure the driver has access to the tank.

How much tank maintenance will I need to carry out?

Very little. As part of our commitment and service agreement, we manage maintenance on behalf of all of our bulk tank LPG customers. All we ask is that you keep your tank free from flammable materials, debris and foliage. It is vital that you do not paint your tank or obscure any signs or labels.

How often do I need to service my tank?

BP Gas conducts a visual inspection of its customers' tanks at each delivery and takes immediate action to address any maintenance requirements or issues. However, we strongly recommend you carry out regular checks on your LPG appliances.

What if I have a problem with my tank?

As part of our customer service offering, BP Gas will repair any faults or damage to your tank. All queries should be reported to BP Gas immediately.

What should I do if I suspect a gas leak?

Should a gas leak occur, it is likely that it will be first noticed by the smell.

  • Turn off the supply at the emergency and main stop valves
  • Extinguish all naked lights and sources of ignition
  • Open door and windows (beware that LPG is heavier than air and will collect at the lowest levels)
  • Do not switch electrical appliances / mobile phones on or off
  • Call BP Gas' emergency line on 0845 607 6118
What should I do in the event of a fire?

In the event of a fire, you should:

  • Raise the alarm and activate any fire alarms
  • Call the Fire Brigade informing them of the incident and that LPG bottles may be involved
  • Evacuate everyone from the area
  • Remove surrounding bottles if it is safe to do so
  • Do not attempt to extinguish the fire unless it is safe to do so
  • Call BP Gas' emergency line on 0845 607 6118
